OpenWorlds Inc. is a software company focused on providing immersive, interactive, and intelligent Web 3D graphics and multimedia capabilities for application developers. Founded in 1991 as DRaW Computing, OpenWorlds Inc. has used its extensive graphics expertise to perform rendering and human simulation, consulting, training, and contract work for many corporate clients.

DRaW secured two NASA SBIRs for creating advanced 3D graphical NASA E-training applications, which led to the development of a suite of commercial products under the name OpenWorldsTM. OpenWorlds is an open architecture SDK for providing the same advanced simulation capabilities that NASA needed for any application. It is open to different hardware platforms, operating systems, rendering layers, and any type of application.

OpenWorlds is designed to be an open system which extends new and legacy applications with immersive 3D graphics and multimedia, animation, and VR simulation capabilities, and also shares interactive 3D worlds across the Web. OpenWorlds' customers include SGI, Mitsubishi, NASA, the US Navy, and Tpresence.

OpenWorlds has been featured in publications including NASA Tech Briefs, VRML Developer's Journal, Silicon Graphics World, and the Philadelphia Business Journal. In addition, the company was selected as one of only 7 companies nationwide to present at the 1998 NASA Technology Commercialization Review.

In 2000, DRaW Computing began the transition to commercialize the OpenWorlds technology, and was renamed OpenWorlds Inc.. Richard Nelson joined OpenWorlds as its new CEO to head the new commercialization and expansion efforts, and OpenWorlds founder, Dr. Paul Diefenbach, remains the CTO to head the technical development.

With dozens of man-years invested in its development, the new OpenWorlds Version 2.5 represents the state-of-the-art in Web 3D and multimedia graphics for application developers and provides a powerful solution for immersive applications such as E-learning and E-training. OpenWorlds has been leading the way in the advancement of the next-generation industry standard, X3D.
