OpenWorlds
is leading the effort in creating and supporting the next-generation Web
3D standard, X3D. X3D is a modular,
extensible format which supports new multiple encodings such as XML and
a UTF-8 VRML-compatible encoding. X3D supports multiple profiles, so importing
and exporting X3D is easy and consistant. X3D supports all VRML content,
and VRML browsers will support X3D-1 and X3D-2 content. Most major modeling
and animation packages already export to formats which are X3D-compatible,
meaning that you can use your choice of content tools. And foremost, X3D
is a living, evolving standard in which OpenWorlds and other browser companies
will continue to extend with new features by adding new components, such
as Nurbs and advanced rendering. Some of the components either currently
